*Spoiler Alert* Captain America: Civil War Rant
Hello all guests and visitors,
Welcome back to my page. As some of you may know, I go by Sexy Naughty Bitchy Me. Honestly, I'll probably be changing it soon, but anyway. I haven't been on for several years now, but I just needed to....vent....a little, I guess. Sorry, not sorry if you get offended by anything written here. This is solely because I needed to get my......feels, I guess is the word that I'm looking for,....out there for me, myself, and I to get any peace from them.
A few days after the movie, "Captain America: Civil War" came out, me and a few family members went to go see it. I personally liked the movie. I honestly thought that I would dislike it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It did hit me in FEELS area of my heart, however. I mean, really, CIVIL WAR with Marvel Characters and especially TONY STARK, MY ALL TIME FAVORITE, of COURSE it's going to be hard to not be affected.
What most probably don't know, is that I'm an avid fanfiction reader and sometimes writer. I just love reading what others and even myself could come up with to try and.....'fix' (for lack of a better word) the fandom that we're writing about. I mostly read now-a-days, but after the past few months of reading fanfics, and even just some random posts, I just HAVE to get this out. Now, if you haven't watched the movie, then there is a Spoiler Alert Warning ahead for you, also for those who have also missed watching MOST of the Marvel/Avengers related movies. And if you haven't, and would like to keep it all a mystery, then by all means, please leave now, and save yourself from the Spoilers ahead. I mention like four movies out of the franchise, so if you haven't been keeping up with, at least, the Captain America movies, you might want to skip this. If you're okay with Spoilers then please continue on ahead.
I don't know how any of you feel about the Marvel Universe, but for me, I much prefer it to DC Universe any day. About the only character franchise I really liked from DC was Batman. That's JUST my opinion though. I'm not meaning anything bad about anybody who disagrees. Most of this post is going to be about me just ranting about my OPINIONS; nothing more, nothing less, at least that's all it's intended to be anyway. This will be just how I see the characters of the Marvel Universe. I mean, how I interpret something isn't going to be the same as everyone else. That's why it's called an opinion. Now, I will bring up a few facts from the movie in question and other movies in the franchise, so, AGAIN, SPOILER ALERT WARNING!
SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!A
Okay, lets dive right in. I'm a HUGE Tony Stark fan. That may or may not be because of Robert Downey Jr. doing a WONDERFUL job at portraying the character; that role was MADE for him. Honestly, I've liked Tony Stark's character since I was first introduced to him back when I was a kid. I'm ashamed to say that it wasn't through comics, but I did like the character all the same. I have read a few comics, and seen a few of the cartoons (which got me into the Marvel Universe in the first place) since then, but I've come to really like the Marvel Cinematic Universe the most right now. RDJ has done an AMAZING job portraying Tony Stark's character, and I for one, just couldn't see anyone else as this character.
Now, for those who don't like rants, you are free to leave at any time, and those who don't mind, thanks for reading this.........ranty piece of rant about to take place.
Maybe it's because I like Tony Stark so much that I just never could get a feel for Captain America's character. I just couldn't like that guy, it seems. I mean, Chris Evans is HOT, but Steve Rogers is.....in my opinion, a self-righteous JERK! I mean in "Captain America: The First Avenger", he seemed alright; I thought it was kind of a dick move to want to get into the Army, but seem to be......hurt(?) that Bucky got in. But that wasn't what made me think he was self-righteous. Honestly, it was probably the fact that he's in a world he knows nothing about, supposedly seen some 'footage', and then he was an expert on Tony's character? I mean, Tony isn't the sanest or most well adjusted person ever, but really who's he to judge Tony? He's been.....sleeping, for lack of a better word, for seventy or so years. How would he REALLY know ANYTHING about Tony? He didn't know how he grew up, or what he was thinking at all times, or anything like that, so what gave him the right to treat Tony like crap? I think he read a BS profile and just made up his own mind then and there; not caring that the profile was made at a low point in Tony's life. Steve just seemed like he was a dick to me at that moment. Now, that's probably just me being biased, so I'll try to stay away from calling him self-righteous, again. Like I said before, just my opinion. (Which will remain as me thinking of him as a douche bag.)
In "Avengers: Age of Ultron" Tony did screw up, but he didn't deny that, as far as I can remember. He just wanted to help the world and keep it safe because of what WANDA made him see. Yes, he should have talked to the others, but it didn't seem like they would REALLY care about what Tony had to say. They all seemed to have a preconceived understanding of Tony's personality, life, and anything else that made him who he was. Didn't seem too fair to me, to be honest, but that's just how it seemed to me. I mean, Bruce had helped Tony, both.....create, for lack of a better term, Ultron and Vision (though Thor also helped with Vision), but yet, nobody seemed to care about his involvement (or Thor's or Wanda's for that matter) and just pushed all the blame onto Tony (of course, we're also going to disregard that Wanda MIND RAPED anyone as well). If Bruce thought it was wrong, or didn't agree, then he could have said something at anytime, or even just told the others himself, or something. But, I digress, the fact was that Tony built Ultron, who then went on to cause MAJOR chaos in the world, mostly for Sakovia, and Tony took the blame, and, in my opinion, accepted that blame as his and his alone. The last part is just how it seemed to me.
Now, in "Captain America: Civil War" we are introduced to the Sakovia Accords. From what I understood, they weren't perfect by any means, but they were meant to give accountability. I wasn't sure on all the technicalities, but Tony wanted the Avengers to take responsibility for what they do to or in a city, no matter the country, so that they couldn't just play off their actions as though they didn't have consequences. He wanted the people of the places they go to have a voice in what happens to their home. That's how I understood it, at least. Anyway, I could see both sides of the story on this, but the facts remain, that neither Steve or Tony seemed to want to listen to the other's point of view. However, I was totally on Tony's side for most of it, but that's just me being biased, so anyway.
If that wasn't bad enough, Bucky gets blamed for killing several delegates at the conference for the Accords to be signed or discussed or something. One of those delegates, is T'Chaka, the King of Wakanda. His son is T'Challa, the Black Panther, who also then becomes King of Wakanda. We, of course, learn later that it wasn't Bucky, but Zemo who had done it. Anyway, Steve decides to save his friend who he has been looking for since he was reunited with him again in "Captain America: Winter Soldier".
In the previous Captain America movie, we learn that James Buchanan Barnes, also known as Bucky, had been found by Hydra (at least I'm pretty sure it's Hydra). He had been injected at some point with a type of super soldier serum and brainwashed into being the Winter Soldier, as far as I remember, anyway. Yes, I feel bad for him. Yes, I believe that nothing he did as the Winter Soldier should be held against him. However, that's still just my opinion. And I don't think that's how the world works anyway. Good people get hurt, and bad people seem to be able to just get away with whatever crap they do. That's just how it seems to me. I want to believe that him having been brainwashed would be taken into account and no one would be allowed to harm him, but I don't know what would actually have happened in a real life situation like that.
Back to Civil War; apparently, the world leaders at least SEEM to know that Bucky Barnes is the Winter Soldier. None of them seem to care that he was brainwashed into it, and to me, that just seemed like something they'd do. Anyway, Steve found Bucky, they escape capture, and are then wanted by the US government if no one else. Tony is told to capture them. He signed the Accords, as he agreed with what their purpose was, and so agreed to do so. The two, Tony and Steve, then set up their own teams.
Now, here's some ranting for you. I think it's utter BS that Steve went and somehow convinced Clint to join his team, KNOWING that he was retired and had a wife and kids at home, that he SHOULD have been with instead of getting involved with Tony's and Steve's fight. Again, however, it seemed like another person who SUPPOSED to be a teammate (if not friend/family) of Tony's just BLINDLY followed someone's opinion on Tony and just decided that he was wrong, so my team must be right. Just my opinion on that. And, also, if I was Laura, Clint's wife, then him and I would be having some MAJOR discussions about family and if he REALLY wanted to be apart of the one we had started. I mean, I get being bored after having been an agent for so long, but COME ON! At least have the common courtesy to not get my hopes up, jerk off. Not to mention, just up and leaving the wife and kids just to seemingly hold someone's hand through a fight they could have prevented. Again, just how I see it.
Anyway, Steve's team consisted of Scott Lang (AntMan), Sam Wilson (Falcon), Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Wanda Maximoff (Scarlett Witch), and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier). Tony's team consisted of Natasha Romanov (Black Widow), T'Challa (Black Panther), James Rhodes (War Machine), Vision, and Peter Parker (Spiderman). They all fight each other, Steve and Bucky get away, Rhodey gets hurt, the ones on Steve's side get sent to a prison called The Raft, and Tony's left to pick up the rest of the pieces and try to salvage SOMETHING from what had happened.
Here's some more ranting. I was PISSED as all hell that Natasha betrayed Tony, but that's because I'm biased and, personally, I think her and Steve DESERVE each other. We're not even going to TOUCH the Sharon Carter mess at all or I'd be here ALL YEAR ranting. I mean, Natasha CHOSE Tony's side, and I GET that she's a spy/assassin/agent, but if she TRULY agreed with the Accords, then why help the supposed enemy? In my opinion, that just showed that she could not be trusted and that she seemed to be way too okay with betraying and hurting Tony. Anyway, I also felt SO bad for Tony when Rhodey was hurt. As much as I thought it was kind of funny that Tony just repulsored Sam after he said, "I'm sorry.", my feels were SO hurting right then. I was about to cry, because Tony just looked SO devastated, at least to me he did. He looked as though his world was falling apart, and (to me at least) it was. I mean, Steve wouldn't listen to him about the accords, him and Pepper seemed to be on the outs of their relationship, his team (maybe even those he considered his family) were fighting (some betraying him, again), and then Rhodey got hurt by an ally (of course, I forgot to mention having lost JARVIS in "Avengers: Age of Ultron"). I just wanted to HUG him so much right then; to let him know SOMEONE was on his side.
Civil War, again. Tony goes to the Raft, talks with the other Avenger people (mostly Sam), finds out that he needs to go to Siberia to help Steve, and also has to deal with Ross, the jerk off. Now, before he gets to Siberia, we learn that the ones who had brainwashed Bucky had also used their super soldier serum on like four or five other people; making them Winter Soldiers as well. Tony realized that he needed to help Steve and Bucky, 'cause that could be a BIG problem if left alone. So, he shows up, tells them he's there to help, and they find out none of this was needed as the other super soldiers were dead, still in their cryotubes. Then they find out that everything was all orchestrated by Zemo as he wanted the Avengers "defeated" one way or another. We are then shown a scene that is shown somewhere in the beginning of the film, except in more detail. We learn that Bucky, as the Winter Soldier, killed Tony's parents.
Now, for those who are still reading this, for whatever reason, yet more ranting. Steve, along with Natasha, found out in the previous Captain America movie that Bucky had been the one to kill Tony's parents, or at least it's strongly implied that he did. In "Avengers: Age of Ultron" we get subjected to Steve being all offended that Tony had tried to keep his Ultron project a secret, and secrets are bad, and don't keep secrets from your team. Alright, that scene just made him a HYPOCRITE! He KNEW what had happened Tony's parents, and didn't say anything to their son, YET it's wrong to keep secrets?! This is another reason why I think he's self-righteous; what he did was right, but Tony doing something similar is WRONG? No, it wasn't the same kind of situation, but secrets are secrets. And if you're going to condemn someone for keeping a secret then you shouldn't be keeping any either. Practice what you preach. And Natasha could have told him at ANY time before the Civil War, as well; it shouldn't have mattered about Steve's feelings or how it would make Bucky look, as Tony DESERVED to know. Again, though, that's just me being biased about liking Tony more though.
In Civil War land: Tony asks if Steve had known, and when he said he had, he was upset about it. His grief took over and he attacked Bucky. The three eventually ended up in a two-on-one fight and then Tony was......incapacitated and Steve and Bucky got away with T'Challa's help. Zemo was captured, Tony ended up back at Avengers HQ, and Steve and Bucky, ended up in Wakanda after rescuing the rest of the Avengers on his side from The Raft, and Steve sent Tony a letter, supposedly apologizing along with a flip phone to contact him if they were needed.
Now, this should be the final rant session, but it'll probably be a long one, so bare with me if you're still reading this long rant/movie critique thing. Thank you to those who have and hopefully you found this.......entertaining if nothing else (I don't mind if you have a laugh at this).
I think it's BS that people are all against Tony acting on his feelings when he found out about his parents (mostly what had happened to his mother, who he had obviously adored), and yet it was alright for T'Challa to do the SAME thing. And don't tell me it wasn't. T'Challa later learns it wasn't Bucky who had killed his father, but until that time, he had been pissed as all hell at Bucky and had wanted to kill him. I've seen several posts that seem, at least to me, to vilify Tony about his actions, but pardon T'Challa for his. T'Challa was grieving over the death of his father, who he had loved dearly and had looked up to. Tony was grieving over the reopened wound of the death of his mother (at the very least her, if not both his parents), who he had loved dearly. They were both overcome with anger, one of the steps in the grieving process, and attacked the one responsible for their pain. However, Tony had hardcore proof about who killed his parents, but T'Challa had only been led to believe who had killed his, and yet he had still gone after Bucky without ANY hardcore proof. While I whole heartedly agree with T'Challa's actions, as they were made in haste while grieving, it is NOT right that Tony is persecuted for doing the same thing. The part that kind of pisses me off, is that T'Challa, while being a great person for not killing Zemo and giving sanctuary to Steve and Bucky and possibly the others, didn't seem to care about someone who he allied himself with after the two-on-one battle between Tony, Steve and Bucky. That's just how it seemed to me. I've only seen the movie once so far, so I probably missed a scene or comment.
Another thing, if Steve hates bullies, then WHY did he gang up on Tony?! I mean, come on, how much more of a bully can you be?! Lets just ignore the fact that Steve and Bucky are Super Soldiers for the moment and just stick with the fact of the TWO-on-ONE battle, first. Tony was grief stricken and feeling betrayed, so YES he attacked them first, but instead of just trying to remove Tony from the situation, by any means necessary (again, he's a Super Soldier), he decides that attacking Tony is just the ONLY way he had. Again, that's probably just my biased opinion though. But, again, SUPER SOLDIER! Let's add that fact back in there, and the way I see it, Steve is the worst kind of bully out there. He attacked Tony, who is an UNENHANCED civilian, with ANOTHER Super Soldier and yet, he's NOT a bully?! He's a self-righteous jerk who, at least right now, I can't STAND to see or really talk about in a good light. And his supposed apology letter at the end of the movie, just sounded like utter CRAP to me. YET again, it's probably because I'm biased, but it just seemed like he was only sorry that he.......got caught, for lack of a better phrase, in keeping a secret after supposedly being AGAINST keeping secrets. It honestly just seemed like a way for him to try and clear his guilty conscience without really admitting his own guilt, or even admitting that he even could POSSIBLY be wrong about what he had done. I'll say it, yet again, that's just my biased opinion, I guess. And I know I said I'd TRY to not keep calling Steve self-righteous, but....couldn't help it. It was the only word I could think of at the time. No one has to agree with me, nor do they have to like it; it's just my opinion.
Just to be clear, I honestly LIKE Bucky; I think his tastes in a BFF is crap. I think that him and Tony would get along very well if things had been different. I honestly think that they could STILL get along, as I believe that Tony isn't the utter ASSHOLE others think he is. I think that he really would forgive Barnes for what he was forced to do in the name of a cause he wanted nothing to do with. I mean, it might take some time, but how would you feel in his situation. And honestly, even then, most people would react differently as we're humans, and each of us have our own personalities, thoughts, and experiences. Tony has been disappointed, let down, betrayed, and out right attacked by people who he had thought were his friends and family. I mean, Stane was supposed to have been a mentor like figure, if not a father figure, to Tony; and in "Iron Man" he had tried to kill him, several times. Rhodey took one of his suits and then allowed Hammer to mess with it in "Iron Man 2". Natasha.......well, honestly, her thing in the Civil War wasn't too much of a shocker for me, as she had pretended to be someone else (spy remember) to do an evaluation on him, and had TECHNICALLY already betrayed him once, so I just kind of figured, SPY, for her, but still, she had chosen Tony's side of things and to stand on Tony's side and yet let Steve and Bucky go, so I kind of see that as her having betrayed him TWICE. Steve had nearly killed him, kept a BIG secret from him, and out right fought him; yes, most of that was for Bucky, but still, they were supposed to be teammates, if not friends, and you shouldn't treat your teammates like Steve treats Tony. (YES, I know that I'm being biased, AGAIN! I at least acknowledge it.)
Another thing, to me it didn't seem like ANY of the actual "Civil War" was about the Accords. Honestly, I thought it was more about Steve trying act like he was right and Tony was wrong because he didn't want Bucky to be "hurt". How can you really help a person if they don't want you to help? It just seemed to me like he just wants to do what HE believes is right and screw the consequences because he's Captain America. I think it's a bit douchey to call yourself, whether or not someone else called you that or whatever, a CAPTAIN of an ENTIRE country. And to call yourself Captain AMERICA kinda makes it out like you're trying to be a Captain of at least TWO countries. I mean, there's North America, South America, and from what I learned in school, there's also Central America, where the tip of North America meets the top of South America. Still, Steve pretty much admits that he was above the law. If not his words, then his actions certainly spoke loud and clear to me. Just my biased opinion. I know I must sound SOO unfair to Steve in this. This is just how it seems to me.
Now, anyone who disagrees with me, that's fine. Like I've said several times through out this thing; this is just my opinion. I don't really care if you get offended by my opinion either. If you put that much stock into what someone's RANTING about, then don't read it, and don't leave me comments about how my OPINION is wrong. It's an opinion, not facts. This is how I view things, not how everyone should. You all have your own opinions. If you wish to share them, that's fine. Just don't expect me to accept your opinion as fact, if it's JUST your opinion. Opinions are like assholes, EVERYONE has one, and some stink worse than others, but that's alright as it's YOUR opinion and nobody else's, and you are entitled to your own opinion. It just annoys me when people will read a fanfic with a pairing they don't like, or view a video that they find wrong, or look at a picture of something they don't agree with, and then proceed to tell everyone how their opinion is right and everyone else's is wrong. And don't EVEN think about posting something about how I'm going to hell or God would be mad or whatever because my opinion is wrong. Opinion's cannot be wrong, unless there is FACTS to say otherwise. Like if it's your opinion that water is O2H, then unless you're dislexic and just typed or wrote it (or whatever) backwards, then you're WRONG. Science has proven that water is made up of TWO Hydrogen molecules and ONE Oxygen molecule. H2O. That's just the easiest example that I could come up with. Again, I'm honestly not meaning to offend ANYONE. I don't really care if you find my opinion wrong or whatever, but if you agree, or even if you don't, let me know in a MATURE way. Just because it's my opinion doesn't make it wrong and it doesn't make it right; it just makes it MY opinion.
Sorry for the LONG ranting session. If you've stuck with it so far, and wish to leave a comment, you can do so. If I got any facts about any of the movies wrong, please let me know. I own most of the movies I've mentioned, but I don't know everything, so if I'm wrong about something, let me know. In advance, if I am wrong about something, sorry that I screwed up. I'm only human. We make mistakes.
Hope you all are well.
Take care,
SNBM

Take care,
SNBM
